How to move a website within Hostinger

Transfer, copy, or migrate your website between different Hostinger hosting plans or user accounts using automatic and manual methods

While you can migrate websites from other providers to Hostinger, you may also need to move a website that is already hosted here. This is common when you have multiple plans and want to move a growing website to a more resourceful plan, to move a client’s site, or when consolidating websites across multiple Hostinger accounts into one. This guide explains the different methods available based on your source and target destinations.

Move to a different hosting plan in your Hostinger account

You can migrate a website where both the source and target hosting plans are accessible under your single login. The process to transfer a website from one hosting plan to another in your account varies depending on the website type and the target plan.

Web and cloud hosting

If moving from any web or cloud hosting plan to another web or cloud hosting plan within your account, follow the guidance corresponding to the website type:

  • WordPress: You can use the automatic migration tool, which is available as a paid service.
  • Hostinger Website Builder: Can only be moved automatically for a fee. Manual migration is not supported; instead, you must recreate your website on the new hosting plan.
  • Hostinger Horizons: While move is not supported, you can duplicate the website by clicking the options button (⋮) on the Websites page of hPanel and selecting the new hosting plan. Next, remove the old website and connect the domain to the new one.
  • PHP or HTML websites: There is no automatic migration for these sites; you must move them manually using the backup and restore functions.

Agency hosting

If moving to an Agency plan, use the Clone website feature for WordPress and Hostinger Website Builder. PHP or HTML websites must be moved manually using backups.

Move a website to another Hostinger user

Follow these steps if the target hosting plan belongs to a different Hostinger customer account.

Web and cloud hosting

If both accounts use standard web or cloud hosting:

  • WordPress: Use the Website ownership transfer feature. Transfer of ownership is free on Cloud Professional and Enterprise plans. On other plans it is available as a paid add-on.
  • PHP or HTML websites: Move the website manually by downloading a backup from the source account and uploading it to the target account.

Agency hosting plans

When moving between Agency plans or between a web or cloud plan and an Agency plan in different accounts, you must move WordPress or PHP/HTML websites manually using backups.

NOTES

  • Due to technical architecture, websites created with Hostinger Website Builder and Hostinger Horizons cannot be moved to a different user account.
  • As an alternative to automatic migration or ownership transfer for WordPress websites, you can move them manually for free.

 

Once you have moved your website files and databases, remember to update your domain’s DNS records to point to the IP address of your new hosting plan. This ensures your visitors can reach the site at its new location. If needed, you can also migrate your emails as a separate process.
