Domain registration requirements at Hostinger

Eligibility and verification rules for new domain registrations

Updated 4 days ago

This article explains the requirements that apply when registering a new domain name at Hostinger.

While the registration of new domain names is straightforward, certain conditions must be met to ensure compliance with registry and platform policies.

Compliance with terms and policies

All newly registered domains must comply with Hostinger’s Terms of Service, the Domain Name Registration Agreement.

Domains may undergo automated security checks. Names that appear offensive, trademark-protected, misleading, or suspicious may be automatically rejected or require additional review before registration is completed.

Legal compliance

By registering a domain, you agree to:

  • Keep contact information accurate and up to date.
  • Comply with applicable laws, including privacy and consumer protection laws.
  • Use the domain for legitimate purposes only.
Failure to meet these obligations, or using a domain for illegal or malicious purposes (such as distributing malware, phishing, piracy, or trademark infringement), may result in domain suspension or deletion.

Accurate and valid contact details

You must provide complete and accurate contact information during domain registration.

Domain registries may review the submitted details. If the information is incomplete or appears invalid, verification may be required.

In some cases, you may be asked to provide supporting documents, such as:

  • Government-issued photo ID (passport, driver’s license, ID card)
  • Proof of address (utility bill or similar document)
  • Phone number verification
  • Proof of incorporation (for businesses)
  • Government-issued certificates validating business activity

Contact details must remain up to date after registration.

Email address requirements

A valid and functional email address is required for domain registration.

Certain temporary or restricted email providers are not supported. If an unsupported provider is used, you may receive an error such as: “Invalid email address” or “This email provider is not supported. Please use a different email address.”

If this happens, use an email address from a widely recognized provider (for example, Gmail or Outlook) or a custom domain email address.

Do not use an email address associated with the domain name you are currently registering, as it may not yet be active.

Phone number requirements

You must provide a valid phone number that:

  • Matches the correct length for your country
  • Includes a valid international country code (according to ITU standards)
  • Does not consist of repeated or identical digits (for example, 1111111111)

Additional requirements for country-code TLDs

Certain country-code top-level domains (ccTLDs) have additional registration requirements defined by their respective registries.

Depending on the extension, you may need to:

  • Meet local presence or residency requirements.
  • Provide additional identification documents.
  • Use contact details that comply with registry rules

For country-specific registration rules (for example, .fr, .id, and other ccTLDs), refer to the dedicated guides: Domain registration at Hostinger.

Meeting the legal and contact detail requirements when registering a domain helps ensure a smooth and compliant process.
