India domain registrations require additional verification in compliance with regulations for registrars operating in India. This applies to every .in domain, regardless of the contact details’ country, and to any domain registration where the contact details list India as the country.
Step 1 – Phone number verification
Some registrations require you to verify a phone number before the registration completes. Enter a valid, active phone number, then confirm the code sent to it by SMS or WhatsApp. Your domain typically activates within 24 hours of completing phone verification.
Step 2 – Email verification
After registering, transferring, or updating the contact details of a .in domain, Hostinger sends a verification email to the registrant’s contact email address. Click the link in that email within 7 days to confirm your details.
If you don’t verify in time, the domain is suspended until verification is completed. See How to fix a domain suspended due to pending ICANN verification at Hostinger for how to resolve this and complete verification.
Step 3 – Identity verification (KYC)
Depending on the situation, a .in domain or your Hostinger account may also require identity verification (KYC).
If your Hostinger account is flagged for suspicious activity, Hostinger requests identity verification directly. See How to complete Hostinger identity verification (KYC) for how to complete this.
If NIXI, the .in registry, requires KYC due to invalid or unverified contact details, the domain shows a serverHold status in WHOIS. See How to fix ServerHold suspension for .in domains at Hostinger for the required documents and how to submit them.
If your .in domain contains a registry-reserved keyword, such as Fin, Tax, Digital, India, or National, NIXI requires manual approval before the domain can go live, even if your contact details are already valid. The domain may show a different status than serverHold, such as unavailable in WHOIS lookups, while the review is pending.
NOTE
- NIXI may add reserved keywords beyond the ones listed here at any time.
To resolve a pending reserved-keyword domain, email your KYC documents to support@nixi.in with a brief explanation of why you’re registering a domain with that keyword. The required documents are the same as those listed in How to fix ServerHold suspension for .in domains at Hostinger, based on your residency status. NIXI handles the review and final approval directly, and Hostinger can’t expedite or override this process.
Completing the required verification at each step keeps your .in domain active and avoids interruptions to your website and email services.
