Microsoft has released a new version of the Outlook app that no longer supports IMAP or POP connections. It will gradually reject new and current connections entirely by April 30, 2026. Because Hostinger Email uses IMAP/POP to sync with external apps, the new Outlook interface cannot connect to it.
If you recently updated Outlook and your emails stopped syncing or your folders disappeared, this guide explains what changed and what you can do next.
What Changed in the New Outlook
The new Outlook app now supports only Microsoft email accounts, such as:
-
Outlook.com
-
Hotmail.com
-
Office 365 accounts
External providers — including Hostinger Email — cannot connect because IMAP and POP support has been removed.
How This Affects Hostinger Email
After the update, you may experience:
-
Your Hostinger mailbox no longer syncs on the external app or takes too long to load
-
Missing or empty folders and slow search through email data
-
Connection errors when trying to add your mailbox or login, such as “Authentication failed”
-
Sudden switch to the new Outlook interface without confirmation and involuntary session log off
⚠️ Microsoft may automatically migrate some users to the new Outlook version.
Your email data is safe — only the Outlook app is affected.
Your Options
1. Use an Alternative Email Client (Recommended)
Apps like Mozilla Thunderbird fully support IMAP and work smoothly with Hostinger Email. And you can follow our step-by-step guide to set it up:
👉 How to Set Up Hostinger Email on Mozilla Thunderbird (Windows)
Thunderbird is lightweight, reliable, and frequently updated, making it an excellent replacement for Outlook.
2. Continue Using Classic Outlook (If Still Available)
The classic version of Outlook still supports IMAP, but Microsoft is gradually phasing it out.
You can try:
-
Using the “Switch to the classic Outlook” toggle inside the app
-
Downloading the classic version (while still available): Install or reinstall classic Outlook on a Windows PC
⚠️ This option may become unavailable at any time as Microsoft continues the transition – the expectation is that change will be final by April 2026.
3. Access Your Email via Webmail
You can always read and send emails through Hostinger Webmail:
