DMARC stands for Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance.
It’s a DNS record (of TXT type) that helps protect email domains from phishing and spoofing attacks. DMARC records enhance email security by enabling domain owners to specify email authentication policies and receive reports on email traffic using their domain, ultimately reducing the risk of email-based fraud and improving overall email trustworthiness.
Before you start
This article is part of setting up a domain for Hostinger Email manually. If you haven’t gone through that guide yet, start there for full context on adding DNS records to your domain. Records in Hostinger’s DNS zone take effect only when your domain uses its assigned Hostinger nameservers. If another provider manages your DNS, add the DMARC record there instead.
Create a DMARC record
It’s only two steps to create a DMARC record:
-
Copy this default DMARC value and replace domain.tld with your domain:
v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:dmarc@domain.tld. To set a custom policy, generate your own value with DMARC Record Generator or DMARC Record Wizard instead. -
Once you have the value, access your domain’s DNS zone and create a new TXT record in this format:
|
Type |
Name |
Value |
TTL |
|
TXT |
_dmarc |
paste the default value from step 1 or the value generated by the tool |
default (14400) |
After adding the new record to your domain’s DNS zone, give it some time to propagate worldwide.
