A Next.js Turbopack build error on Hostinger stops a Next.js 16 build, usually on a CSS file such as globals.css. Hostinger has fixed the build server issue behind this error, so redeploying your app is the first step. If the build still fails, switch Turbopack to worker threads or build with webpack. On Next.js 16.3.3 and newer, building with webpack is required.
Next.js Turbopack build error message
The build log shows an error similar to this:
TurbopackInternalError: ... creating new process - node process exited before we could connect to it with exit status: 0The error usually appears while Next.js processes a CSS file with PostCSS or Tailwind CSS, for example globals.css. To find it, open the build log as described in how to troubleshoot Node.js deployment build errors at Hostinger.
Why Next.js Turbopack builds failed on Hostinger
Next.js 16 builds with Turbopack by default. During the build, Turbopack starts a helper process to handle CSS and connects to it through a local network port on the server. Between 21 and 28 September 2026, Hostinger web and cloud hosting servers started blocking connections to most local ports for security. Turbopack couldn’t reach its helper, and the build stopped.
webpack, the previous Next.js build tool, doesn’t use a local port for this step. That’s why building with webpack avoided the error.
Fix the Next.js Turbopack build error
Step 1 – Redeploy the app
Hostinger has resolved this issue on its build servers. Redeploy the Node.js application and check the build log. If the build completes, no further changes are needed.
Step 2 – Use worker threads in Turbopack
Add this setting to next.config if the build still fails and your app uses Next.js 16.3.0 or newer. Turbopack then runs its helpers as worker threads instead of separate processes. This setting has been tested on Hostinger:
experimental: {
turbopackPluginRuntimeStrategy: "workerThreads"
}Redeploy the app after saving the change.
Step 3 – Build with webpack
Change the build command to next build --webpack in your deployment settings or in the build script of package.json, then redeploy the app. Use this option if the worker threads setting doesn’t fix the build or your Next.js version is older than 16.3.0.
NOTE
- If
next.configcontains Turbopack-specific settings, move them to the matching webpack settings, because webpack ignores Turbopack settings.
Next.js 16.3.3 and newer on Hostinger
Next.js 16.3.3 and newer need a newer system library (glibc) than Hostinger build servers provide when building with Turbopack. Build these versions with next build --webpack, as described in Step 3.
After these steps, your Next.js 16 app builds and deploys on Hostinger. If the build fails with a different error, see how to fix the “Failed to build the application” error in Hostinger Node.js.
