Transfer your domain out of Hostinger to a new registrar by unlocking your domain, disabling WHOIS privacy, and obtaining your EPP code, then completing the transfer from your new registrar’s dashboard.
Before you start
- At least 60 days must have passed since the domain was registered or last transferred, per ICANN policy.
- The domain must not be suspended, expired, or in the redemption period.
- The transfer lock must be disabled in hPanel. See How to lock or unlock a domain at Hostinger to unlock the domain.
- WHOIS privacy protection must be turned off.
- DNSSEC must be disabled. Verify this using the DNSSEC Checker tool.
- You’ll need a valid EPP code to authorize the transfer at your new registrar.
- Some registrars have additional requirements, so confirm these with your new registrar before starting.
Step 1 – Unlock your domain
- Log in to hPanel.
- Go to Domains, find your domain, and select Manage.
- In Domain Overview, locate Transfer lock.
- Select the toggle to unlock the domain.
NOTE
- Wait 12 hours before switching the lock status back after changing it. If your domain locks itself again automatically, this may be due to the 60-day restriction after registration or a recent transfer.
Step 2 – Disable WHOIS privacy protection
- In hPanel, go to Domains and select Manage next to your domain.
- In Domain Overview, locate the Privacy Protection setting.
- Select the toggle to turn it off.
Check more about this feature in this guide: WHOIS Privacy Protection at Hostinger.
Step 3 – Get your EPP code
- In hPanel, go to Domains and select Manage next to your domain.
- In Domain Overview, locate Authorization code.
- Click Get code to reveal the code.
- Copy the code and provide it to your new registrar when prompted.
NOTES
- Keep your EPP code private and treat it like a password. Don’t share it publicly.
- Check more about this feature in this guide: How to get the EPP code at Hostinger.
Step 4 – Initiate the transfer at your new registrar
- Go to your new registrar’s website and start the domain transfer process.
- Enter your domain name and the EPP code when prompted.
- Follow any additional steps required by your new registrar.
- Check your email for a transfer confirmation message from Hostinger or the registry, and confirm it promptly to avoid delays or transfer denial.
NOTE
- Domain transfers typically take up to 7 days to complete.
Special cases for specific TLDs
.uk domains
Transferring a .uk domain works differently. Instead of an EPP code, change the IPS tag in hPanel to your new registrar’s IPS tag, which starts the transfer immediately. Check more about this process in this guide: How to transfer a .uk domain from Hostinger.
.ru domains
EPP codes for .ru domains aren’t visible in hPanel. Contact Hostinger’s Customer Success team for assistance. Check more about this process in this guide: How to transfer a .ru domain from Hostinger.
.es domains
As of November 20, 2024, .es domain transfers require an EPP code. Contact details on both registrars must match exactly, and you must confirm the registry’s confirmation email within 10 days.
Your domain moves to your new registrar once the registry confirms the transfer, typically within 7 days. Contact Hostinger support if you run into any issues during the process.
