How to troubleshoot Hostinger File Manager errors

Troubleshooting errors in the file manager

Updated 2 days ago

If you encounter an error while performing actions in the Hostinger File Manager such as uploading, deleting, or extracting file, use the solutions below to resolve the issue.

Before you start

  • This guide applies to WordPress and custom HTML/PHP websites hosted on Hostinger web, cloud or Agency hosting plans.
  • If you are using the Hostinger Website Builder or Hostinger Horizons, these errors do not apply as those platforms do not utilize the hPanel File Manager.

File Manager page frozen or not loading

File manager sessions expire after a period of inactivity for security reasons. If an error occurs after you have not used the tab for a while, close the File Manager and reopen it from hPanel.

Fixing common File Manager errors

Fix the 001 Connection Aborted error

The 001 Connection Aborted error occurs when a network issue interrupts the connection between your device and the server.

  • Switch to a different internet network, such as switching from mobile data to wifi.
  • Disable any active VPN or proxy settings.

Fix the 400 Bad Request error

The 400 Bad Request error means the server cannot process the request due to an issue with the data sent by your browser.

  • Verify that the file format is supported and that the file is not corrupted.
  • Perform the action using SSH commands if your hosting plan supports it instead of the File Manager interface.

Fix the 403 Forbidden error

The 403 Forbidden error indicates the server understands the request but refuses to authorize it, often due to incorrect file or folder permissions.

Fix the 404 Not Found error

The 404 Not Found error occurs when the server cannot locate the specific file or directory you are trying to access.

  • Refresh the hPanel dashboard and reopen the File Manager to ensure the file path is current.
  • Use SSH commands if supported to verify if the file exists in the directory.

Fix the 409 Conflict error

The 409 Conflict error happens when your request conflicts with the current state of the server’s data.

  • Clear your browser cache or try using a different web browser.
  • Flush the DNS cache.
  • Try the action from a different device or network.

By following these steps, you can resolve common communication issues and resume managing your website files effectively.

NOTE

  • Use the WordPress Admin area if you encounter these errors specifically while uploading media to a WordPress site.
