Node.js is an open-source, cross-platform, back-end JavaScript runtime environment that allows JavaScript code to run outside a web browser, that is, on the server side. This makes it useful for building fast and efficient applications.
While Node.js traditionally requires root access to ensure all the libraries and modules are installed, updated, and enabled, we offer Node.js support across different hosting plans:
Cloud Hosting – Node.js can be installed and configured through our front-end application hosting feature. Supported Node.js versions include:
- Node.js 18.x
- Node.js 20.x
- Node.js 22.x
- Node.js 24.x
To get started with Node.js on Cloud hosting, follow our guide on how to add a front-end website.
VPS Hosting – For full root access and customization, we have a pre-made template for you: Ubuntu 22.04 64bit with Node.js and OpenLiteSpeed. It will automatically install the high-performance OpenLiteSpeed web server along with Node.js. OpenLiteSpeed also features an easy setup for SSL and RewriteRules.
This setup is over four times faster than Node.js with Nginx, so make sure to select it when purchasing any VPS plans and start using Node.js at Hostinger!
