If you have a website on one Hostinger account and want to restore it to a different user account, for example, a colleague’s or client’s, follow the steps below.<\/p>

On the source account<\/h2>

Access the Hostinger account where your website is currently hosted and complete these steps:<\/p>

  1. \n

    Create a backup<\/a> of your website files and database. Databases are required for most CMS platforms, such as WordPress, OpenCart, or Joomla.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    Download the file and database backups<\/a> to your device. If the hosting plan expired and was canceled less than 30 days ago, follow this guide instead: Generate backups of a canceled plan<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  3. \n

    Emails will be permanently deleted in the next step. If you want to keep them, generate an email backup<\/a> before proceeding (optional).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  4. \n

    Once you’ve downloaded all the required data, remove the website<\/a> from this account to release the domain for use in the new account.

    \nEach domain name can only be associated with one Hostinger account at a time.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>

    On the target account<\/h2>

    After completing the steps above on the original account, access the target Hostinger account and follow these steps:<\/p>

      \n
    1. \n

      Set up the new hosting plan<\/a>, if it’s not yet active. You can add the domain name during the hosting setup (as an empty website), use a different domain name, or select a temporary one.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    2. \n

      Add the website<\/a> to the hosting plan if you didn’t add it earlier. If you get a “Domain is already hosted<\/b>” message, make sure the website has been deleted from the previous account<\/a>. <\/span>If prompted, verify the domain’s ownership<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    3. \n

      Upload the file backup<\/a>. If the website does not require a database, skip to step 7.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    4. \n

      Create a new empty database<\/a> where to import the website’s database into.<\/p>\n

      The new database will have a different prefix for the name and username from the previous one. This configuration cannot be changed.<\/p><\/li>\n

    5. \n

      Import the database backup<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    6. \n

      Update the database credentials (database name, username, password) in the website’s configuration file<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    7. Point the domain to the new hosting plan via A record<\/a>.<\/li>\n
    8. Verify that the website is working properly by clearing your browser cache<\/a>, or opening it in an incognito\/private window.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>
