This acts as a checkpoint to prevent routing conflicts and does not impact your actual domain ownership.<\/p><p>Depending on where the domain is currently connected, the interface displays different messages:<\/p><ul>\n<li>If a domain is already used within your current Hostinger account, the Domain connected to site message appears. For subdomains that are already added, the <code>Your domain can't have active subdomains<\/code> message is shown instead. In these cases, no further actions are required. Navigate to the hPanel <a href=\"https:\/\/hpanel.hostinger.com\/websites\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Websites<\/span><\/a> page and locate the desired website using the search bar.<\/li>\n<li>The <code>Already used at Hostinger<\/code> message specifically indicates that the domain name is linked to an existing website on a separate Hostinger account.<br>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-10910\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hostinger.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/55\/2026\/05\/hostinger-add-website-domain-in-use.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"609\" height=\"279\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hostinger.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/55\/2026\/05\/hostinger-add-website-domain-in-use.png 729w, https:\/\/www.hostinger.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/55\/2026\/05\/hostinger-add-website-domain-in-use-300x137.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 609px) 100vw, 609px\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ul><p>This situation can happen if the domain is connected to another profile you manage, a website created by a previous developer or agency partner, or an unrelated account from a past owner before the domain expired and you registered it. It can also occur due to another user entering it by mistake.<\/p><p>To link the domain to your hosting plan, you must first release it from its current location.<\/p><h2 id=\"h-option-1-reclaim-a-hostinger-registered-domain\">Option 1 &ndash; Reclaim a Hostinger-registered domain<\/h2><div class=\"intercom-container intercom-align-center\">\n<p>If you purchased the domain through Hostinger and it is registered to your current Hostinger account, follow these steps to reclaim it:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Go to hPanel &rarr; <a href=\"https:\/\/hpanel.hostinger.com\/websites\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Websites<\/a> &rarr; <strong>Add website<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select the desired website type.<\/li>\n<li>Enter the domain name.It will be listed as <strong>Owned<\/strong>. The account owner will receive an email notification.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NOTE<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you own the domain but it was purchased through a different registrar, refer to Option 2.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"h-option-2-disconnect-the-domain-manually-from-the-other-hostinger-account\">Option 2 &ndash; Disconnect the domain manually from the other Hostinger account<\/h2>\n<p>If you manage or have access to the separate Hostinger account where the domain is currently linked, you can log in to release it manually. Changing the domain name of the old website to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostinger.com\/support\/how-to-switch-to-a-temporary-domain-in-hpanel\/\">temporary domain<\/a> allows you to free it up without losing website data.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the separate Hostinger account where the domain is currently in use.<\/li>\n<li>Navigate to the <a href=\"https:\/\/hpanel.hostinger.com\/websites\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Websites<\/a> section and locate the website tied to this domain. Accept the warning messages.<\/li>\n<li>On the domain entry page, select <strong>Use temporary domain<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Alternatively, if you no longer need the data, you can permanently&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostinger.com\/support\/3624731-how-to-delete-a-website-from-a-hosting-plan-in-hostinger\/\">delete<\/a> the website.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The domain becomes available to connect to a new website as soon as it is reclaimed or released from its previous location.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NOTES<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If the separate account belongs to a former partner or agency, you can contact them directly to request the domain release.<\/li>\n<li data-kodee=\"hide\">If access to the other Hostinger account or its owner is unavailable, and the domain was not purchased through Hostinger, manual intervention is required.
