Think of them as an address book of the internet.

When someone types in your domain name into a browser, DNS records tell the internet where to find your website. In your case – at Hostinger.

How domain connection works

When you want to connect a domain that’s registered at another provider to a site that you’ve built at Hostinger, you need to update its DNS (Domain Name System) records.

Once updated, the changes to the DNS records take up to 24 hours to process. Afterwards, your website will become accessible via the domain.

How long does it take for your site to go online

When you change the DNS records of a domain to connect it to a site, the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) worldwide must update the information that they have about that domain.

Some providers do this quickly, while others take longer. This means that it might take anywhere from 30 minutes to 24 hours for your domain to fully update and for your website to start working.

This process is automatic and, unfortunately, it can’t be sped up.

What happens during the time it takes your domain to connect

Changes to DNS records do not affect website editing. You can continue making changes to your site as usual.

What is affected is your site’s accessibility:

During the connection process, your site may be inaccessible online for up to 24 hours.

Your site might be accessible to people in some locations, but not in others.

Your site might be accessible on some devices, but not on others.

Once the 24 hours have passed (usually much sooner), your site will be accessible to everyone – globally and on any device.

This article explains what DNS records are, how they work, and what to expect when connecting a domain from another provider to a site at Hostinger.

[182

post-411","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-general-information-dns
en-US
https://www.hostinger.com/support/10531094-understanding-domain-connection-what-it-is-and-how-long-it-may-take/
["GET
