While A records link domain names to IP addresses, PTR records perform the opposite task by associating IP addresses with their corresponding domain names.<\/p><p class=\"no-margin\">\n<\/p><p class=\"no-margin\">PTR records are mainly used for a specific internet function known as <b>reverse DNS lookup<\/b>. This process is commonly used for security purposes, email verification, and network diagnostics. <\/p><p class=\"no-margin\">\n<\/p><div class=\"intercom-interblocks-callout\" style=\"background-color: #e3e7fa80;border-color: #334bfa33\">\n<p class=\"no-margin\">Learn more about it: <b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hostinger.com\/tutorials\/what-is-a-ptr-record-and-how-to-do-reverse-ip-lookup\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"intercom-content-link\">How to Reverse IP Lookup and Check PTR Record<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<\/div><p class=\"no-margin\">\n<\/p><h2 id=\"h_00db0a605f\">How to Add a PTR Record<\/h2><p class=\"no-margin\">To manage PTR records on your VPS, follow these steps:<\/p><p class=\"no-margin\">\n<\/p><h3 id=\"h_07257f92f7\">Step 1 &ndash; Preparations<\/h3><p class=\"no-margin\">First, make sure that <b>the domain<\/b> is pointing to your VPS by <b>A record<\/b>. You can find the IP address of your VPS at the top of the <b><a href=\"\/support\/5139756-how-to-find-your-vps-ip-address\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"intercom-content-link\">VPS information<\/a><\/b> tab. Go to your domain&rsquo;s DNS Zone, according to its nameservers to verify it:<\/p><ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"no-margin\">If your domain is using <b>Hostinger nameservers<\/b>, check this guide: <b><a href=\"\/support\/4468886-how-to-manage-a-records-in-hpanel\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"intercom-content-link\">How to Manage A Records at Hostinger<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"no-margin\">If your domain is pointed elsewhere, your <b>DNS zone<\/b> is <b><a href=\"\/support\/4410887-dns-record-changes-in-other-registrars-hosting-providers\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"intercom-content-link\">managed from there<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul><p class=\"no-margin\">If you made any changes to the domain&rsquo;s records, wait up to 24 hours for the<b> <a href=\"\/support\/4146975-what-is-dns-propagation\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"intercom-content-link\">propagation<\/a><\/b> to be completed, then proceed to the next step.<\/p><p class=\"no-margin\">\n<\/p><h3 id=\"h_3c9bc8d9cb\">Step 2 &ndash; Set the PTR Record<\/h3><p class=\"no-margin\">Unlike <b>A records<\/b>, which are created on the domain&rsquo;s DNS Zone, PTR records should be <b>created on the server<\/b>. Open the <b><a href=\"https:\/\/hpanel.hostinger.com\/servers\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"intercom-content-link\" rel=\"noopener\">VPS<\/a><\/b> section of your hPanel, select your server, and open the <b>Settings<\/b> page:<\/p><p class=\"no-margin\">\n<\/p><p class=\"no-margin\">\n<\/p><div class=\"intercom-container intercom-align-center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/55\/2021\/01\/60471b05-59f3-4139-bb2b-2b363de61e58.jpg\" width=\"250\"><\/div><p class=\"no-margin\">Go to the <b>IP address tab<\/b>, and click on <b>Set PTR record<\/b> next to the IPv4 or IPv6 address of your server according to your requirements.<\/p><p class=\"no-margin\">\n<\/p><p class=\"no-margin\">On the pop-up window that will appear, enter the <b>PTR record name<\/b>, that is, the name of your domain, and click on <b>Save<\/b>.
