However, PuTTY on Linux is used more for debugging and connecting to serial ports and to raw sockets.<\/p><p>On Debian, use the following command:<\/p><pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">sudo aptitude install putty<\/pre><p>Followed by the tools installation command:<\/p><pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">sudo aptitude install putty-tools<\/pre><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-macos\">MacOS<\/h3><p>Like Linux, the macOS comes with a command-line SSH client already installed. But to download PuTTY, open the terminal window and use the commands below.<\/p><p>To install PuTTY for MacOS:<\/p><pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">brew install putty (or) port install putty<\/pre><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-requirements-for-set-up\">Requirements For Set Up<\/h2><p>Before setting up an SSH connection using PuTTY, you will need the following information:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Server IP Address<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"\/ng\/tutorials\/how-to-change-ssh-port-vps\/\">SSH port<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>SSH username<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>SSH password<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>If you are a Hostinger user, there are two ways to find this information, depending on your hosting plan:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Shared, WordPress, and Cloud hosting &mdash; go to the <strong>SSH Access<\/strong> menu under the <strong>Advanced<\/strong> category. Here you will see all the login details that you need. For VPS users, this is usually <strong>root<\/strong>. However, for shared hosting users, you will need to enter a predefined username like <strong>u721233450<\/strong>. After entering your username, press <strong>Enter.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type your SSH password and press <strong>Enter<\/strong> again. You have successfully connected to your account using the PuTTY SSH client. You can list all available SSH commands by executing <strong>help<\/strong> via the terminal.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-use-puttygen\">How to Use PuTTYgen<\/h2><p>PuTTYgen is a tool that <a href=\"\/ng\/tutorials\/ssh\/how-to-set-up-ssh-keys\/\">creates SSH key<\/a> pairs. PuTTY stores these key authentications in its <strong>.ppk<\/strong> format files. With Windows, you will use the <strong>PuTTYgen.exe<\/strong> graphical tool, while with Linux, you will use the command line.<\/p><p>To begin, locate PuTTY and open PuTTYgen.<\/p><p>To create a new key pair, click the <strong>Generate<\/strong> button near the bottom and begin to move your mouse around within the window.
