And, thanks to the Valheim community, you can enrich your experience even further with mods.<\/p><p>Valheim&rsquo;s modding community has grown enough that you can find plenty of cool mods to improve the UI, add new features, tweak game mechanics, and enhance the game&rsquo;s visuals.<\/p><p>Some platforms offer more flexibility in accessing their files, making it easier to mod Valheim compared to others. In addition, most Valheim mods need to be installed on your PC, but some can only be set up on a dedicated server.<\/p><p>In this tutorial, we&rsquo;ll use Nexus Mods, specifically <strong>Vortex Mod Manager<\/strong>, as an example of one of the most popular mod hubs and provide a few alternatives. We&rsquo;ll also learn the different ways to install Valheim mods.<\/p><p>\n\n\n\n<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-prerequisites\">Prerequisites<\/h2><p>To ensure stable gameplay, your machine must meet the following requirements:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>CPU.<\/strong> A modern multi-core processor such as Intel i5 or i7 or AMD equivalent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>RAM.<\/strong> At least 4GB, but 8GB or more is recommended.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Storage.<\/strong> Preferably an SSD with enough space for game files. In addition, around 10GB or more is recommended to accommodate future updates or additional mods.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Software<\/strong>. BepInEx modding framework installed.<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>Note that running the game on the same computer that hosts the Valheim modded server and other apps can significantly impact your gaming experience.<\/p><p>Consider a dedicated <a href=\"\/ca\/vps\/valheim-hosting\">Valheim VPS hosting plan<\/a> for the best performance and convenience. Therefore, we highly strongly recommend using a mod manager instead.<\/p><p>Mod managers such as Vortex Mod Manager inform you when a newer mod version is available, and you can update it with a single click. You can also turn off mods without deleting the files, which can help with troubleshooting.<\/p><p><div><p class=\"important\"><strong>Important!<\/strong> The server and the computer on which you want to run your modded Valheim must meet the following <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.bepinex.dev\/articles\/user_guide\/installation\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BepInEx requirements<\/a>.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<\/p><p>Here&rsquo;s a step-by-step guide to help you get started.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-install-bepinex\">1. Install BepInEx<\/h3><p>Before diving into modding Valheim, you need to install BepInEx, a popular modding framework essential for running Valheim mods. BepInEx provides the necessary tools and libraries for mod developers and ensures compatibility between different mods.<\/p><p>Follow these steps to install BepInEx and get started with modding your game.<\/p><p><strong>Install BepInEx using a mod manager on Linux<\/strong><\/p><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/thunderstore.io\/c\/valheim\/p\/ebkr\/r2modman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">r2modman download page<\/a> and select <strong>Manual Download<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Extract the downloaded file.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To install the mod manager, use the <strong>.AppImage<\/strong> release found in the extracted folder.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open the manager.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To complete the setup process, follow the steps in the manager.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>Mods &rarr; Online<\/strong>, search for <a href=\"https:\/\/thunderstore.io\/c\/valheim\/p\/denikson\/BepInExPack_Valheim\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BepInExPack Valheim<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Download &rarr; Download with dependencies. <\/strong>The mod manager should now install all required dependencies, including BepInEx.<\/li>\n<\/ol><p><strong>Install BepInEx manually<\/strong><\/p><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>From the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/BepInEx\/BepInEx\/releases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BepInEx GitHub page<\/a>, download the latest version of BepInEx for your operating system. For example, for Windows with 64-bit executables, download <strong>BepInEx_x64_x.zip<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Extract the contents of the archive into the game installation folder. For example:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Linux<\/strong>. Extract the appropriate ZIP file to the folder where <strong>Valheim.x86<\/strong> or <strong>Valheim.x86_64<\/strong> is located for both your computer and server.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Windows (Microsoft Store)<\/strong>. Extract to <strong>C:XboxGamesValheimContent<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Windows (Steam)<\/strong>. If you encounter problems, go through <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.bepinex.dev\/articles\/user_guide\/troubleshooting.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">troubleshooting<\/a>.<\/p><p><strong>Install BepInEx using a mod manager on Windows<\/strong><\/p><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nexusmods.com\/about\/vortex\/?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vortex Mod Manager page<\/a> and download the mod manager.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Install Vortex and log in to your Nexus account. Vortex will install all required dependencies, including BepInEx, and restart afterward.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If Vortex cannot detect Valheim&rsquo;s installation folder, click Continue in the popup. Find Valheim&rsquo;s installation folder and click <strong>Select Folder<\/strong>. Find and download mods<\/h3><p>Let&rsquo;s learn how to find and download some Valheimmods:<\/p><p><div><p class=\"important\"><strong>Important!<\/strong> It&rsquo;s important to review the documentation for each mod or test it to check whether it requires installation on servers only or both the server and the player&rsquo;s computer.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<\/p><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nexusmods.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nexus<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/thunderstore.io\/c\/valheim\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thunderstore<\/a> mod sites to find your favorite mods.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Depending on your installation method, select one of the following:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For manual installation, select the <strong>manual download option<\/strong>. A ZIP file containing all mod files will be downloaded to your system.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\">If you&rsquo;re using a mod manager, select the&nbsp;<strong>mod manager download option<\/strong><\/span>. For example, on the Nexus page, select <strong>VORTEX<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Confirm the download. For example, if you have a free account on the Nexus page, confirm the download by selecting <strong>SLOW DOWNLOAD<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the popup, select <strong>Open Vortex<\/strong>. Your mod should be automatically added and enabled in Vortex.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you downloaded the mod manually, extract its files to the <strong>BepInEx &rarr; plugins<\/strong> folder of your game installation directory. For example, extract the downloaded file to <strong>C:XboxGamesValheimContentBepInExplugins<\/strong>. Install mods on your Valheim server<\/h3><p>The simplest way to install mods on your Valheim server is to copy the files from the mod manager on your computer to your server.<\/p><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stop your Valheim server.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Copy your system&rsquo;s required files and folders from your <strong>BepInEx &rarr; plugins<\/strong> folder.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access your server&rsquo;s files using Hostinger&rsquo;s File Manager or <a href=\"\/ca\/tutorials\/ftp\/filezilla-ftp-configuration\">File Transfer Protocol<\/a> (FTP) client.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On your server, locate Valheim&rsquo;s installation folder, then go to <strong>BepInEx &rarr; plugins<\/strong> folder.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Paste the required mod files to the <strong>plugins <\/strong>folder on your server.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Restart the server.<\/li>\n<\/ol><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-4-test-and-verify-the-mod-installation\">4. Test and verify the mod installation<\/h3><ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Start Valheim from your platform. Keep the server software up to date. Monitor server load to address performance issues by setting up automated tools like <strong>Prometheus<\/strong> or <strong>Zabbix<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Back up your server files<\/strong>. Before installing or updating any mods, back up your game and server files. If a mod causes unwanted changes, you can restore your unmodded copy from this backup.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Manage mods<\/strong>. Use mod managers to stay on top of regular updates to your mods or prevent any unwanted conflicts. When using numerous mods simultaneously without a mod manager, read the mods&rsquo; documentation to check for compatibility issues.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Warding bases and hubs<\/strong>. Consider using mods that enable wards to safeguard your well-earned structures. Ward mods can manage spawns and events within their protected area on the server, which is especially useful against players using harmful client-side mods that you can&rsquo;t control otherwise. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nexusmods.com\/valheim\/mods\/402\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Better Wards<\/a> is just one example.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Admin privileges<\/strong>. Configure the <strong>adminlist.txt<\/strong> file to give selected players admin rights to help you control unruly players:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gather the <strong>Steam 64-bit ID<\/strong> of the players you want to add as admins.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On your Valheim server, locate and open the root folder.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Locate the <strong>adminlist.txt <\/strong>file.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Edit the file to add each <strong>steamID64<\/strong> in a separate line.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Save the file and restart the server.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consider changing the game&rsquo;s forwarding ports in your router if players find a way around your bans.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul><p>Keep in mind that Valheim modding allows players to join your server with mods that might disrupt the game for others.<\/p><p>Organize your community on platforms like Discord and clearly outline your guidelines regarding what is and isn&rsquo;t allowed.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-conclusion\">Conclusion<\/h2><p>Valheim quickly became popular for its engaging gameplay loop and challenging difficulty.
